Disney brought one of its most intense survival stories to with , debuting the first-look trailer during its panel on Thursday.

Based on the acclaimed 2026 novel of the same name, penned by Daniel Kraus, Whalefall , only to be swallowed whole by a massive sperm whale. A desperate race against time unfolds when he's left with just one hour of oxygen, fighting with every last breath to escape from inside the creature.

The trailer released Thursday centers on Austin Abrams' character, Jay Gardiner, who is seen diving deep into the ocean in full scuba gear. Tension slowly builds as his descent into the dark blue waters turns ominous when an eerie sound is heard echoing through the water. The footage sees multiple sea creatures swinging alongside Jay, before revealing the much more massive figure swimming amongst them. The tentacled creature then briefly appears, but disappears just as fast, leaving Jay disoriented, and frankly, just where the creature wants him. Moments later, an intense clicking sound hints that things are about to take a turn, with the creature swimming past him, taking down anything that gets in his way.

The smaller sea life that survives desperately tries to swim away, with Jay following, only to realize it's too late. Tearing through the ocean, the tentacled creature closes in on Jay, who attempts to swim to the surface and escape the wrath of this monster. In a sudden swoop, the creature grabs him and drags him deeper into the water, with Jay struggling as he uses every ounce of energy to fight back, getting entangled in the creature's tentacle-like appendages.

The most shocking moment in the trailer, however, comes when the creature opens its mouth, with Jay clinging to the creature's teeth, as he does everything he possibly can to avoid being swallowed. Fighting to free himself, he kicks at the inside of the creature's mouth, but his leg gets trapped, and within seconds, he's pulled further in, sliding down the monster's throat, letting out a painful scream for help as the screen cuts to black.

The trailer gives the feel of a claustrophobic fight for survival, as the Disney thriller fully leans into the novel's premise of a man trapped inside a massive sea creature with no way out, as the time ticks on the oxygen he has left to make it out. In addition to relative newcomer Abrams, who starred in Weapons, and is teaming up again with Zach Cregger in Resident Evil, Emily Rudd, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, Jane Levy, and John Ortiz are also starring in the film.
