After plenty of anticipation for the franchise's comeback, Blade Runner is now set to drop two big releases in 2027, one of which will debut on the small screen while the other will be a live interactive experience. Blade Runner's new live release from Behaviour Interactive is a multisensory experience that "will plunge visitors into a dystopian world that is both visually striking and narratively rich, staying true to the aesthetic and philosophical essence of the cult classic." The upcoming project will be revealed across various cities in North America throughout 2027, though the video game studio has yet to confirm which cities.

Meanwhile, Behaviour's announcement reiterates that Alcon Entertainment, which holds the IP rights, is currently in post-production on Blade Runner 2099. The series is set to be a sequel to Ridley Scott's classic 1982 Blade Runner movie and its 2017 legacy successor Blade Runner 2049, based on Philip K. Dick's 1968 sci-fi novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The original film starred Harrison Ford as former police officer Rick Deckard hunting down fugitive "replicants," with the film sequel being led by alongside a returning Ford.

While details are still largely under wraps, Blade Runner 2099 will star Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Tom Burke, Maurizio Lombardi, Dimitri Abold, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Nedham. Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott also attached as an executive producer.

The new confirmation of a 2027 premiere for Blade Runner 2099 follows a series of delays in targeted release windows, with previous reports eyeing the series for late 2026 before pushing back to late 2026. The last major release in the franchise was the 2026 animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which was released via Adult Swim and Crunchyroll.

With a live-action TV series and immersive interactive experience on the way next year, the continues to expand in brand-new directions after over four decades. The franchise has also seen successful expansions into video games, book follow-ups, comics, and documentaries alongside its major film and TV pursuits.

Following Blade Runner 2099 and the launch of the immersive experience in 2027, it remains to be seen whether the hit series will also return to the big screen in coming years. Ridley Scott has previously floated the idea of making additional Blade Runner movies, and the franchise's return to the center of the cultural conversation next year could potentially be what gets the ball rolling.
