Harrison Ford has confirmed that season 4 is getting rewarded with its episode count.
Before Shrinking season 3 premiered in early January, Apple TV renewed the comedy-drama series for season 4. Production on the next season begins soon, and while it will likely be a while until its specific premiere date is announced, and share new season 4 details.
In an interview with , Ford shared that Shrinking season 4 begins filming next week, adding that, “We have 12 episodes to do.” That’s the same number of episodes that season 2 received, and a one-episode increase from what was ordered for season 3. Shrinking’s inaugural season ran for 10 episodes.
This extension comes as compared to the previous three seasons. Co-creator Bill Lawrence promised that the next season would deliver “a completely new story next year,” which he described as “scary/risky/fun.” He then clarified that season 4 would be “a new story to tell with the same cast,” as opposed to forming an all-new main cast.
Days later, Lawrence revealed that there will be a time jump when Shrinking season 4 begins. He also mentioned that the show will continue to follow events in the Pasadena/Altadena area, where characters like Jason Segel’s Jimmy Laird and Jessica Williams’ Gaby Evans still live. Ford’s Paul, on the other hand, will be living on the East Coast.
In the , Paul moved to Connecticut with his wife, Wendy Malick’s Dr. Julie Baram, so that they could live closer to Paul’s daughter, Meg. However, Paul did briefly fly back to Los Angeles to arrange for Jimmy to reconcile with Cobie Smulders’ Sofi.
What’s unclear is whether Paul will return to LA during Shrinking season 4 or if he’ll remain in Connecticut for the entirety of this next chapter. Paul’s not the only character who’s now living in that state, either. Jimmy’s daughter, Alice, played by Lukita Maxwell, is in Connecticut attending college.
Lawrence created Shrinking with Segel and Brett Goldstein. The latter recurred in seasons 2 and 3 as Louis Winston, the man responsible for the drunk driving accident that killed Tia, Jimmy’s wife and Alice’s mother. Other Shrinking series regulars include Luke Tennie as Sean Mitchell, Michael Urie as Brian Lorenzo, Christa Miller as Liz Bishop, and Ted McGinley as Derek Bishop.

Like the first two seasons, , as evidenced by its 91% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. The series has been nominated for nine Emmys and three Golden Globes, and Urie won the Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2026 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Brian.
Shrinking is one of three TV shows that Lawrence has set up on Apple TV. The other two are Ted Lasso, which is returning for season 4 in August, and Bad Monkey, which doesn’t have a season 2 release date set yet. Lawrence is also executive producing ABC’s Scrubs revival and created HBO Max’s Rooster.
