A cable space opera, aired for five seasons in the 1990s, and is often said to be one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi shows of the decade. The show is set on a space station that serves as a hub for diplomacy, and because of it's political nature, the series was able to tackle an interesting mix of topics.
Exploring political intrigue, interstellar conflict, and ancient cosmic forces, Babylon 5 stood out for its serialized storytelling. 7 The Expanse
A six season series that ran from 2015 through 2026, had an interesting life throughout its run. Beginning on Syfy and eventually moving to Prime Video, the series was set in a distant future where humanity has colonized the Solar System. The series follows multiple characters, including Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), and James Holden (Steven Strait).
The series follows these characters as they get caught in a political conspiracy involving alien technology, which causes tension between Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Praised for its sense of realism, The Expanse is known for its nuance in painting the different sides of the political scope within the universe. The political side of the series sets it apart from the typical sci-fi show.

Based on Hugh Howey's novels, Silo follows a community living in a massive underground silo. Within the community, strict rules govern their survival after an apocalyptic event struck the outside world.
The show regularly blends mystery and sci-fi elements, focusing on uncovering the truth about the outside world while also trying to figure out the mysteries of the silo's leadership. The slow-burning tension of the series along with its strong performances offer a layered world built with a complicated mix of dystopian intrigue and standard character drama.

While some struggled with Fringe as it built out the layers of its story and explored parallel universe and different timelines, watching the characters get to stretch between universes and immerse themselves in fresh storylines was fascinating. Following a military team using an alien device, the titular Stargate, to travel between planets, the show explored different threats to the galaxy and saw the team confront them episode to episode.
Blending mythology and action, Stargate SG-1 also had a sense of humor that made it a viewer favorite. The show's ability to create dynamic stakes for its characters, who also had a wonderful sense of team chemistry, made it appealing throughout its long run.
