It's a great time to be a Mortal Kombat fan, and the new movies have proven popular among series veterans and even newcomers. has already garnered a great deal of praise from audiences and those who appreciate the games. in that regard, proving that its creative choices are resonating with audiences.
Mortal Kombat 2026 already boasted an impressive roster of fighters, including lesser-known characters, like Kabal. The 2026 movie featured an equally outstanding cast and even included Noob Saibot, though he wasn't officially named as such. Quan Chi also made an appearance, as did Kitana's mother, Sindel.
The story of Mortal Kombat II revolves around the Amulet of Shinnok and the power it grants its user. The mere mention of Shinnok will elate fans of the video games, though time will tell if we see the fallen Elder God in a sequel.
Shinnok would be a fun inclusion in a potential third movie. Still, the roster is so expansive that many other characters are arguably more worthy of a slot in a Mortal Kombat III. The new Mortal Kombat movies have played fast and loose with the lore, but they've also referenced very specific parts of it, meaning no fighter is off the table.
We have no idea where the story in a sequel will go. Nevertheless, there are several fan-favorite characters ripe for exploration on the silver screen. The characters on this list aren't as well-known as Johnny Cage or Liu Kang, for example, but their inclusion could make a lot of sense in the future.
5 Nightwolf
He hasn't been in the new movies, but Nightwolf has appeared in live-action before, via , where he was played by Litefoot. He served as a spiritual guide to Liu Kang in the movie and taught the Earthrealm champion how to unleash his 'Animality.'
In the video games, Nightwolf first appeared as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 3. He's also appeared in future titles, including Mortal Kombat 11. He's a powerful warrior for the Matoka tribe and can also summon magical weapons, like his iconic tomahawk.
The Makota warrior is an Earthrealm defender in lore, which suggests he would likely help the surviving fighters in a sequel. The story in Mortal Kombat II leaves many unanswered questions. We don't really know what happened to Liu Kang during his battle with Shao Khan, and a guide like Nightwolf could provide answers.
4 Kenshi
A blind swordsman with a tragic past, Kenshi has developed into a fan-favorite Mortal Kombat character. He also has a score to settle with Shang Tsung, who is one of the remaining major threats at the end of Mortal Kombat II.
Shang Tsung manipulated Kenshi in the video games. He told the swordsman he knew the location of a powerful sword for the warrior. However, the weapon was entombed among the souls of Kenshi's ancestors. Shang Tsung absorbed them, leaving Kenshi blind in the process.
Despite his lack of sight, Kenshi remains a deadly warrior, hungry for revenge. He first debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance on the PlayStation 2. Kenshi has remained a beloved character in the franchise ever since, and even features in the latest Mortal Kombat game.
3 Kintaro
One of the most debated fights in Mortal Kombat 2026 is Cole Young's battle with Goro. Many fans believe that the mighty four-armed Shokan warrior wasn't well represented. He's a deadly fighter in the lore, so powerful that he's secured Outworld's victory in previous tournaments. Seeing him lose to an unknown fighter was a bitter pill for many to swallow.
In Mortal Kombat II, we learn that Young's ability allows him to absorb attacks, powering himself up in the process. This makes the outcome more understandable, but fans could still get that epic Shokan vs Earthrealm rematch if Kintaro is added to the roster.
Kintaro is one of Shao Khan's generals in the lore. His appearance makes more sense now than ever as his master fell at the end of the 2026 movie. Kintaro is notably more feline in appearance compared to Goro, complete with tiger stripes and claws. As a general, Kintaro has military experience, making him a powerful adversary for the Earthrealm fighters.
While Kintaro never appeared in the 90s movies, he has featured heavily in video games. He's a boss-level threat, so he should be a formidable threat in a film adaptation.
2 Bo' Rai Cho
Bo' Rai Cho may look like an unimposing character, but he's a highly influential ally of Earthrealm in the video games. He's from Outworld and was raised there under Shao Khan's rule. Despite his origins, he, Bo' Rai Cho, ultimately defected, choosing to help Earthrealm, which is a concept we've already seen in Mortal Kombat II.
The character is an exceptional fit for a movie adaptation because he's not just any Earthrealm ally. He trained Liu Kang and Kung Lao and is a friend of Lord Raiden.
Bo' Rai Cho is an overweight drunken master in the games with some of the grossest special moves in the series. One of his specialties is the 'puke puddle,' where he vomits on the ground, so his opponents slip in it. Future movies may not devolve into toilet humor, but it's easy to see how his character would bounce off Kano and Johnny Cage.
1 Ermac
Ermac is a Mortal Kombat fighter with a unique backstory in the video games. Players of the original arcade game noticed a red-glitched ninja character alongside the error message "ERMACS." That message actually meant "error macros," but Ermac was born and later added to the roster in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Since his Inception, Ermac has become an adored fighter in the roster. He's extraordinarily powerful, as he's ultimately a collection of souls bound by dark magic. In Mortal Kombat: Deception, we learn that Shao Khan created Ermac. That link is enough to make Ermac's appearance a real possibility in the future.
During the Mortal Kombat II intro, we see Shao Khan brutally defeat Kitana's father, King Jerrod, in Edinia. It's a powerful scene, and especially relevant as one of the souls inside Ermac is the king himself.
Ermac is enigmatic as he's aided both Outworld and Earthrealm in the games. He relies on his deadly telekinetic powers, but is no slouch in a brawl either.
Out of every fighter in the roster, Ermac has so much potential for a movie appearance, as his story is already tied to the events of Mortal Kombat II. He has appeared similar to Sub-Zero and Scorpion in the past, but in the latest game, he looks more cybernetic and mummified. His story is also tied to Kenshi, so if we see one in a future movie, we may just get them both.
