Fox has officially discharged its M*A*S*H-esque military comedy series and sent the show home from duty.
M*A*S*H, a military medical dramedy widely regarded as one of the , inspired several spinoffs – Trapper John, M.D. (1979–1986), AfterMASH (1983–1985), and the short-lived W*A*L*T*E*R (1984) – as well as other shows that inherited its formula, combining comedy with intense life-or-death drama, such as Scrubs (2001–). Now, a new military comedy series has officially been axed.
According to , has been canceled by Fox after two seasons, as the network has decided not to renew its second-year comedy for a third season. This is the network's first cancellation of the season, coming just before it reveals its 2026–27 lineup at its upfront presentation on Monday, May 11.
The cancellation isn't unexpected, as Going Dutch was the only scripted considered to be "on the bubble" this season, since it ranked as the network's lowest-rated entertainment program. Although Denis Leary is well regarded within the network and its renewal was considered, Fox ultimately decided not to move forward with a third season.
While Going Dutch won't be returning for a third season, Fox has decided to renew Animal Control for a fifth season and Best Medicine for a second season. Fox has also picked up its second-season medical drama Doc, along with new thriller Memory of a Killer and Fear Factor: House of Fear.
Created by Joel Church-Cooper, as an arrogant and loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel who is reassigned to lead a military base in the Netherlands dubbed the "least important Army base in the world," where he tries to restore discipline and professionalism, but has to work with the base's former leader, his estranged daughter.
In addition to the four-time Emmy nominee Denis Leary, the show's cast also includes Taylor Misiak, , Laci Mosley, Hal Cumpston, Dempsey Bryk, Arnmundur Ernst Björnsson, Catherine Tate, Kristen Johnston, Joe Morton, Milana Vayntrub, Lisa Edelstein, and Parker Young.
Although it was canceled due to low ratings, Going Dutch has received mostly positive reviews from critics, resulting in an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, who praised it for being built around Denis Leary's gruff charisma and giving ample spotlight to its appealing ensemble, and though it may have needed tighter focus, it still showed some strong potential. However, it has a Rotten 54% audience score.
Going Dutch season 2 is streaming on Hulu.
