's new 8-part heist thriller series that's like "Power meets Heat" is officially a must-watch following its world premiere on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Co-developed by Courtney A. Kemp, the creator of the , this gripping new Netflix series features high-stakes heist elements that feel straight out of a classic Michael Mann heist movie. The series is even set in Los Angeles, just like Mann's celebrated thrillers Heat and Collateral, and other vintage heist movies like Point Break.
Nemesis has officially arrived on Netflix and is built for a weekend binge right now, featuring eight episodes that are each roughly an hour long. With a total runtime of 7 hours and 42 minutes, Nemesis would be an ambitious one-night binge but is certainly worth spreading out over a few days or one weekend. Nemesis is not setting out to reinvent the wheel, honing in on all the familiar crime drama and heist thriller characteristics to give fans of these genres exactly what they want. The series is centered around a cat-and-mouse hunt between an elusive, masterful thief and a cunning, determined detective. Matthew Law (Abbott Elementary) stars as Isaiah Stiles, an LAPD lieutenant in the robbery-homicide division who represents a relentless force of good in the series. On the other side of the conflict is Y’lan Noel (Insecure) as Coltrane Wilder, an ex-convict who finds redemption as a businessman harboring a dark secret – he's still running heists with a highly-skilled and trusted crew.
Isaiah and Coltrane share an "unstoppable force against an immovable object" character dynamic that makes them perfect foes in Nemesis. Isaiah sees the world as good and evil, driven by such conviction that he will stop at nothing to bring people like Coltrane to justice. Meanwhile, Coltrane views things with a bit more nuance, motivated by victory, power, and the thrills of the job. That said, Nemesis isn't entirely about the core conflict between the hero and villain – it also doubles as an examination of modern marriage, as both the wives of Isaiah and Coltrane fear the high-stakes and dangers each of their husbands brings into their worlds through their professions.
Nemesis Delivers A Gripping 'Power Meets Heat' Vibe In Series Debut
As expected, Nemesis starts out with a bang, following Coltrane and his crew on a risky and ambitious heist on Halloween night in Los Angeles. After the damage is done, Isaiah examines the case and starts to piece together that this type of operation is far from a one-off crime and that a serious, highly skilled team is likely behind it and already plotting their next move. Isaiah consumes himself with this new case that nobody else in his department seems to be able to crack. Isaiah assembles a task force to investigate the string of recent and likely connected robberies, while Coltrane tries to keep a low profile as he and his team are hunted by the LAPD.
