season 3 is here, and we immediately got an answer to how the show would deal with Fezco O'Neill after the tragic passing of his actor, Angus Cloud. In July 2026, after a multiple-drug overdose. He was only 25 at the time.
It was a tragic loss. Cloud's career was peaking with Euphoria, and to their friend and collaborator. On a less important note, Cloud's death meant Euphoria season 3 would have to find a way around one of their core characters being absent.
Euphoria season 3 offers its solution in the premiere, with it being revealed that Fez is in prison for 30 years, a result of the SWAT shootout at the end of the season 2 finale. In the premiere, Rue (Zendaya) catches up with Lexi (Maude Apatow), and Zendaya suggests that she call Fez.
So in the universe, Fez is still alive. In prison, but still alive. It's a nice candle to hold for Angus Cloud, and makes sure he isn't forgotten about, even if we never see or hear him.
Euphoria Showrunner Sam Levinson Wanted To Keep Angus Cloud Alive In The Show
Sam Levinson was very specific about making sure Fez was still a part of the show, telling that, "There’s a lot of scenes where people are talking to him on the phone. I thought, if I couldn’t keep him alive in life, then maybe within this show I could keep him alive."
Levinson has spoken about trying to get Cloud help, "I spent a lot of time trying to make sure that he was healthy, and when he passed, I was very angry. He’s one of 70,000 people that died of a fentanyl overdose in this country in that year." Keeping Fez in the show seems to have been a personal mission.
The Season 3 Premiere Tributes Multiple Euphoria Cast & Crew Members
Angus Cloud's overdose death also seemed to be referenced by the Euphoria season 3 premiere being partially about the dangers of fentanyl. Cloud wasn't the only passing paid tribute in this episode. The premiere has an "in memoriam" note at the end that includes Cloud, Eric Dane, and Kevin Turen.
