Warning: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2! Season 2's finale sets the stage for a powerful villain to arrive in season 3. Netflix's Daredevil established an intense rivalry between Daredevil and Kingpin. Kingpin was the main antagonist for season 1 and 3 of the Netflix series, while The Hand served as the central villain for season 2.

The first season of Born Again continued the rivalry between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. While Matt and Fisk tried to go in different directions in their lives, they eventually went back to their old ways. Matt returned to being the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and Fisk became the ruthless Kingpin again, while also holding a powerful status as the mayor of New York City.

In season 2, their rivalry was even more heated, as Matt tried to counter Fisk's war on vigilantes and his criminal activity within the city. He wasn't alone, as he received help from Karen Page, Jessica Jones, and an unlikely ally in Bullseye. Eventually, Matt and Fisk's rivalry took center stage during Karen's trial in . Matt exposed Fisk's criminal behavior, but had to reveal his secret life as Daredevil so he could testify against him.

The season ends on a shocking note, as Matt is arrested and put in jail due to his activity as Daredevil. Meanwhile, Fisk resigned as mayor of New York and left the city, now living near a beach somewhere. Fisk's departure from New York means that may need a new villain to take his place, and it could be one that's even more powerful than him.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's Ending Sets Things Up For A Truly Powerful Villain To Arrive

Daredevil With Karen Page and Jessica Jones in Born Again Season 2 Finale Episode 8

Born Again season 2's finale leaves an opening for whom the main villain could be in season 3. Kingpin is on a beach, and Bullseye is on a plane, going somewhere with Matthew Lillard's character. The one villain that is being set up is . The season ends with her putting on the Muse mask and smiling back at herself in the mirror, seemingly accepting that this is her true identity.

However, she likely won't be the main antagonist, as Muse may not be a powerful enough character to develop an entire season around them. Unless season 3's villain is Kingpin again, it will likely be an antagonist that's powerful enough to take over the power void left by Fisk's departure. Considering the Defenders are expected to return in season 3, the villain will also need to be powerful enough to justify their reunion.

Season 3's Villain Must Be Powerful Since The Defenders Are Returning

One of the most exciting aspects of Born Again season 2 was the return of . It was great to see her fight alongside Daredevil again, and the series continued her story by introducing her and Luke Cage's daughter. Fortunately, the Defenders are expected to reunite fully in season 3. Set photos shared on X by featured Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Ritter on the set of season 3. Colter already returned as Luke at the end of the season finale, and Jones will likely return as Iron Fist in season 3.

The last time the Defenders were together was in the 2017 series, when they united to fight The Hand, a criminal organization of ninjas. Since The Hand is returning to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, they could be the villains in season 3. Although, it could also be Kingpin again, since the rivalry between him and Daredevil is a central part of the show. Other Daredevil comic villains who may be considered more dangerous than the Kingpin would be Mister Fear or Death-Stalker, who both possess legitimate super powers.

However, it does suggest that Muse won't be the main villain, since they aren't strong enough to fight all the Defenders. Whoever the villain is, they need to be a worthy foe for the Defenders, who are a formidable team when fighting together. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 doesn't establish a clear villain for season 3, and it will be intriguing to find out more about who it could be.
