may be one of the most recognizable gaming IPs in the world, but that doesn't mean it's bulletproof. The series has had its fair share of ups and downs, ranging from to valleys like the infamously broken state of Unity at launch.
Now, it looks like another spot of trouble is on its way, and unlike Unity's gain in favor over time, this one might not have a happy ending. A new report suggests that an upcoming Assassin's Creed title is currently in a very rough state, putting it at risk of being significantly delayed or outright canceled before its planned release.
On X, Ubisoft leaker provided an update on Assassin's Creed: Codename Invictus, a planned PvP multiplayer game courtesy of former For Honor developers. j0nathan claims that playtests for the game happened on April 30 and that they failed to impress (in his exact words, they were "vraiment nul à chier," which you're free to translate for a less tactful phrase).
As a result, j0nathan suggests that Assassin's Creed Invictus, which was apparently planned to release this year, could very well end up being delayed or canceled. Assassin's Creed fans will still have in the coming months, but if j0nathan's information is correct, that might be all for the foreseeable future.
Assassin's Creed Invictus isn't the only upcoming Assassin's Creed title to encounter apparent development issues. News on the mobile entry Assassin's Creed Jade, which was originally set to release in 2026, has been quiet for a while. Assassin's Creed Hexe, a proper single-player console and PC entry, has been subject to changes in leadership and .
On a broader scale, Ubisoft has been canceling and delaying a wide slate of titles amid restructuring and lay-offs in recent years. Assassin's Creed clearly remains one of the company's biggest priorities, but that doesn't seem to be translating to a smooth path forward for the series.

Assassin's Creed Invictus likely isn't the game that the majority of fans are looking forward to the most, so learning that it's in rough shape might not be quite as devastating as hearing the same about Black Flag Resynced or Invictus. Hopefully, Ubisoft will be able to figure out a path forward for the Assassin's Creed game that avoids either an unpopular launch or yet another cancellation ahead of release.
